RE: image ...chromatic scale c-b http://www.sunicamarkovic.com/music.html
With respect to music, it is well known music worldwide is typically composed and performed using a subset of 12 specific frequency intervals (called chromatic scale tones) from any octave within the middle range of human hearing. In an effort to understand the biological basis for these otherwise puzzling tonal preferences in music, we showed that most of the 12 chromatic scale intervals correspond to peaks of relative power in the normalized spectrum of human vocalizations (Schwartz et al., 2003; see also Schwartz and Purves, 2004).

The term consonance refers to the harmoniousness or pleasantness of the sound produced by playing two musical tones simultaneously. Consonance ordering refers to the relative consonance of different chromatic scale tone combinations

Since human speech sounds are the principal naturally occurring sources of tone-evoking stimuli, we examined whether observed consonance ordering is predicted by the statistical distribution of sound energy in the periodic stimuli that human listeners normally encounter.

RE: POWER GRIDS IN PERIL http://www.sunicamarkovic.com/music.html
The National Academy of Sciences has released an important new report detailing how geomagnetic storms could damage the infrastructure of modern society. An area of particular vulnerability is power grids. Ground currents induced during century-class storms can melt the huge, multi-ton transformers at the heart of power distribution systems. Because modern power grids are interconnected, a cascade of failures could sweep across the country, rapidly cutting power to tens or even hundreds of millions of people:

RE: ICE HALOS ... http://www.sunicamarkovic.com/music.html
Clouds vex astronomers, but they're not always a bad thing. "The same high clouds that prevented me from seeing more Quadrantid meteors on the night of Jan. 3rd created a beautiful display of ice halos when the sun came up in the morning," reports Mila Zinkova of San Francisco, Californa.Tags: ICE HALOS -
